News & Updates
- - NEW - The recession had a big impact on how people use the website. Before every seller with oil on offer was popular. Now every buyer with a decent listing becomes popular. Our advertising revenue collapsed but our advertising costs collapsed even more so that we now earn more from advertising than we spend on advertising per day. The future looks bright.
- - NEW - At the bottom of the website you can now see our traffic statistics.
- - NEW - We had a first user being screwed over. The perpetrator was banned but wil likely return. Don't send money by bank or TT wire before you have received the goods! Certainly not to 'head office' Chinese banks.
- CommodityPartner started in april 2008 and received by the end of 2008, 6.500 unique vistors from 120 different countries. People stay on average 3.30 min on the website and look at 5 different pages. 2.500 unique visitors came back and 380 people registered succesfully. Already 240 listings were launched and they received in total 480 quotes.
- The listings that will end first are now ordered on top at the home page. So if you want more visibility you want to shorten the days your listing will be online so that you will be shown on the top at home page.
- CommodityPartner wants to raise the quality of the website and will therefore no longer allow 'anonymous' users. New registrations are now required to submit their personal or company details and these are published on the website next to their listing. People that already registered but did not submit their details are asked to submit their full personal or company details via 'client panel'. Accounts that are still anonymous or incomplete by mid 2009 will be cancelled.
- You can now rent banner space at the top of the website. Price is $80 per month for your banner to be displayed and linked to your website.
- You can now search the listings also by selecting 'Continent:', 'Minimum Quantity:' and 'Frequency:'. Note that when you select 'per month' next to 'Frequency:' you will only see the listings that selected 'per month' in their frequency. However, some other listings may also be ok for you but express it in another frequency, for instance 'Per Year' or 'Per week'. To search all frequencies simply leave the standard selection 'Yearly total' and calculate what yearly minimum quantity you want to buy from or sell to a CommodityPartner user.
- You can now edit your listing. Sign in, select client panel, select 'My Listings' and you will see next to every listing a button 'Edit this Listing'.
- You can now see how many times a listing has been viewed. How many questions and quotes the listing received. And especially, how many times the listing owner replied to the questions and quotes.
Frequently asked Questions (FAQ)
What commodities are allowed on the website?
Oil, coal, biodiesel, sugar, soybeans, aluminium, rice, wheat, silver, generic pharmaceuticals, silicon chips and many more commodities. As long as the product has no trademark and it is traded in bulk.
How do I know that a company on your website can be trusted?
You cannot trust a counterparty on CommodityPartner and people have already been fooled into sending over money (mostly via bank wire or TT) without seeing any delivery of the promised goods. A good trader develops his own methods to check the trustworthiness of a counter-party. Only paying after delivery is received or working with a Letter of Credit from a well known bank is common practice and strongly advised.
Will you inform me whenever I get a new message or quote?
Yes, you will be automatically informed by email whenever you receive a message or quote. You can change this under your 'my profile' settings. See previous question on how to do this.
What is the difference between Used Cooking Oil, Waste Vegetable Oil, Yellow Grease?
'Used Cooking Oil', also called 'Grease', refers to vegetable oil or animal fat that has been used to fry food. Often used cooking oil is a blend of palm, corn, soybean, sunflower oils as well as beef tallow, chicken fat, and other animal products. Used cooking oil is also contaminated with water and particles from frying.
Used cooking oil that has been cleaned from particles and water is called 'Yellow Grease'.
Used cooking oil that has been cleaned and is only from vegetable oil sources is called 'Waste Vegetable Oil'.
If used cooking oil is from vegetable sources only, but has not been cleaned yet, we still call it 'Used Cooking Oil'.

What is Brown Grease?
'Brown grease' is not coming from fryers but from grease traps. However, brown grease is not just trap grease, it is filtered and dewatered trap grease, ready to be used. In general it has a high free fatty acid content (between 20% and 60%), much higher than yellow grease (between 5% and 20%) and because of the lowest price can be a very profitable feedstock for biodiesel production, grease driving and many other applications.
